How do I back up my BrowserAudio recordings before updating or clearing space?
Export the tracks you want to keep, use Save original for a copy of the full browser capture, and verify those downloads before deleting anything. BrowserAudio’s recording library is local to the extension; it is not a cloud-synced backup.
Turn a local take into files you control
The studio makes recent recordings convenient to revisit, but it should not be the only home for an important voiceover, music idea or permitted reference clip. Browser storage can be removed by clearing extension data or uninstalling the extension. Keeping normal audio files in your own backup system avoids relying entirely on that local library.
Decide what you need to preserve. Individual tracks keep the useful edited pieces. The browser original keeps the complete encoded capture before BrowserAudio’s split and trim choices. Neither is the original source file supplied by a music service or creator.
Export, verify, then reclaim space
- Finish the active take with Stop & save. Open each recording you want to keep and give it a useful name.
- Preview the tracks, check their boundaries and name them. Choose MP3 or WAV for your intended use, then click each track’s Export button. This version exports tracks individually, without a batch or ZIP download.
- Click Save original for a full browser-capture copy if you want it. It is normally WebM/Opus; check it especially carefully if the take was interrupted.
- Find the files in your downloads, open them and listen to the starts and endings. Move or copy them into your usual project and backup location, with any source notes you need.
- Only after verification, select an unneeded take in the studio and click Delete recording. Review the confirmation and confirm deletion if you are ready to remove its saved local audio.
Keep an update separate from an active take
If you are updating the unpacked extension, export anything important first and finish recording before reloading it. Keep the same folder path that Chrome originally loaded, replace the build files inside it and use that extension’s Reload control. Removing and reinstalling, or loading a second copy from another folder, can remove or separate the existing library. Reloading ends an active take.
Storage matters during ordinary use. Longer takes keep captured PCM plus a browser original and metadata. Leave free space for the recording and its exports, then verify downloaded files before removing local takes.
For format choices, read MP3 or WAV. If you are already dealing with an interrupted take, check what recovery retained before deciding that the downloaded copy is complete.
